Match report Week two and an early chance to get the Satnav out with a foray into rural Essex with the visit to High Easter.

Despite an abysmal forecast, play started on time in sunshine and on a slightly greasy surface, with visiting Woodies inserted by the home skipper.

Ian Ball and Rod Brazier built on developing their new partnership at the top of the order, and steadily took the attack to the home side, passing 50 in the first 15 overs. Three overs later, the score had progressed to 82 and thoughts turned to the posting of an imposing total. Surprisingly third change bowler Mann managed to induce Ball into offering a simple return catch, falling for a solid 38.

Josh Brady, fresh from 96 last Sunday, put down his economics studies to join Brazier in the middle, but their partnership was a short lived one, as soon as drinks were called the rain clouds descended.

With drainage slower than an Andrew Brown delivery, it appeared obvious that some time would need to allowed before any play was possible.

Despite an hour and a half wait, an early tea, the pitch was still not playable and the game was therefore abandoned.

Disappointing that an excellent start wasn't able to be converted to a win, but nevertheless a really promising opening stand, which will hopefully form the cornerstone of innings throughout the season.

We go again next week on the road, hopefully with better weather, with a trip to Willow Herbs.
