  • Andy "Nosey" Smith
  • The finest wicket-keeper batsman ever to grace the WMCC cloth is so tight that legend has it when he farts he whistles. See what I did there? Beginning with a compliment and then sticking it right in the ribs? Don’t worry. The inside pocket of his jacket is where he keeps his wallet and there is plenty of padding in there. In all my seven years of playing for this club I have never seen the man buy a drink. Is he related to Steve Richardson? Smithy once scored a 100 in division 34 and still remembers it fondly. I mean the opposition were made up of 1 adult, 7 kids and 1 old cat but I suppose you can only play what’s in front of you. Andy does have the accolade for greatest ever cricket shot hit at Pheasant Park. In a game a few years back against Terling CC a young Roger Marshall boomed in from his run up and bounced our Andy amongst his ears. The first bouncer zipped through so quick Andy didn’t even see it. Zip. Another bouncer.  A whistle broke out. The short ball had always made him quiver. But he knew what he must do. As Rog trundled in, gaining speed, roaring with excitement the third short ball banged into the wicket, Smith squaring himself up to smash it into the trees. Hoisting his nose up Smith pulled the ball right in front of his eye line shooting it into the air beyond. It turns out however his nose doesn’t have much of a middle and Andy was caught at deep-square leg. In a few years’ time the two would be firm friends playing on the same team and after a victory Andy organised a night out with the lads to go for an Indian. However, choosing instead to be Essex’s top dog-sitter he bailed. Love for his girlfriend-beep and his new BMW one series conquers all. Do send us pictures of your new banger soon, the car we mean.
