Match report Weekend Match Report, by Manu Tripathi

Apologies for the delay — this report was held hostage by a few family commitments and a handful of boundary-line marches (some voluntary, others more like parental duties). But here we are, and what a weekend it was!

In a delightful twist of fate, the teams decided to swap scripts from last week. The Seconds channelled their inner Team One, putting in a performance that mirrored the senior side’s previous heroics. Meanwhile, Team One took inspiration from the Seconds’ grit and determination of the prior week.

Saturday saw a few on-field heroes rise to the occasion. Captain Abbey, clearly fed up with dot balls, decided to unleash some bat-based wrath, ably supported by Sunny ( Not Leone), whose composure helped steady the ship. With the ball, Sunny and John Rogers rolled back the years (and the opposition) with disciplined spells that were just enough to grab a much-needed win.

Meanwhile, George—forever the entertainer—mysteriously missed out on a five-wicket haul. Some say it was deliberate, perhaps saving it for a more dramatic stage. Umair brought the fire, and Farid bowled a beautiful spell complete with two brilliant catches—fielding that had some of us wondering if the IPL scouts were hiding in the bushes.

Unfortunately, despite the valiant effort, this performance fell just short of the finish line.

Sunday turned the tide with a confident win. Ben and Hal put on a masterclass, backed by a cheeky cameo from Zakee, who also led the side with clarity and calm. The bowling unit stood tall, keeping the dangerous Great Totham side in check, and securing a fine victory under Zakee’s sharp leadership.

But the real magic of the weekend wasn’t just in wickets and boundaries.

Off the field, Steve and Ian’s conversations with Sam and family reminded us all what this club truly stands for—connection, empathy, and support. A special event is on the horizon, one that promises to bring some much-needed smiles to a family that’s been through more than their fair share of challenges. And that, perhaps, is the most important win of all.

Until next weekend—keep the boots muddy, the tea strong, and the jokes flying.
