Match report With unavailability reaching levels that are anticipated in workplaces across the country on Monday, it was some effort that the club managed to put out a full compliment of 22 for the two league fixtures. Sterling work from Mark Beames, assuming the Ashley Giles role to recruit as teams changed throughout the week. It was somewhat ironic, and surprising then that the 2's shortly appeared at Pheasant Park, with their game rained off without a ball being bowled at Rettendon.

Entertaining Burnham, the 1's were missing top scorers Dan Smith and Damian Abeyratna and how it showed. Losing these key players and then the toss on a wicket that had been affected by the weather were certainly mitigating factors, but to be Dolly Parton (9-5) so early on was a shock to the system. The revolving door at least did stop for a bit in mid-innings as Kev Wright (25), Toby Pateman (17) and Angus Beames (10) made double figures to help give the scorecard a less embarrassing look, but 63 all out was something of a horror show.

In reply, it would take some effort to win the game and early wickets for needed to increase the slimmest of hopes. Despite a couple of tough chances that did not stick, Wade (27*) and Silvester (33*) took the visitors to victory by the most comprehensive of 10 wkt margins, the match concluding at 4.30.

As days at the office go this one will not live long in the memory.

The tough challenges in this division keep coming, with a visit to promotion hunting Noak Hill next Saturday, where hopefully the weather and fortunes are improved.
