Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club FIRST XI v High Roding on Sat 04 May 2019 at 1.00pm
Match was Abandoned

Match report Rain was the winner on the opening day of the new league season as just 7.1 overs were possible at Pheasant Park. High Roding won the toss and elected to field on a cold and blustery afternoon. After even opening exchanges between bat and ball, with some appreciable tennis ball bounce from the 'road end', Manoj Tripathi was the unfortunate recipient of one that kept low, trapping him on the crease right in front of middle stump. The timing was also unfortunate, as rain stopped play immediately after the dismissal. The rain delayed debutant Damian Abeyratna's arrival to the crease, though when he did make it to the middle, the stay was shortlived as just one over was possible until the rain returned, this time keeping the players from the field for an hour and a half. Despite intermittent sunny spells, an early tea and a reduction of overs, a hail storm finally convinced all parties that despite best endeavours, it just wasn't meant to be - 5 points apiece.

We go again next weekend with a visit to Ingatestone, followed by the second round of the National Village Cup at home to East Bergholt next Sunday where we hope for a significant improvement in the weather!
