Match report Another case of what might have been as on a decent batting strip at Rayleigh, WMCC 1's came close to achieving an excellent run chase. The home side, bolstered by the performance of 1's player Ox who scored an excellent 90, chalked up 250 batting first. 2 wickets each for Hayman, Payne & Woodrow, the latter whose appearance in this fixture ensured that he has now played a league match in all T Rippon Divisions 1-10, some feat.

A positive run chase commenced with Brazier & the returning Stephen Richardson with a 50 partnership achieved in the first 9 overs. Good partnerships were forged at the top of the order, but regular loss of wickets kept a check on the run chase as WMCC went from 100-2 to 120-5 at one stage. A fightback was made as Smith (30), Brown (29*) and Hayman (15) helped to take the reply beyond 200 - a first for the season. The run rate was not a problem, but the loss of two wickets in one over pushed WMCC to the brink at 215 for 9. 36 to get at a run a ball was achievable, but with a lack of wickets in hand, the task was just too much, as 4 runs later Woodrow was run out leaving WMCC 31 runs short of the hosts total.

A positive batting display, the best of the season so far, and another case of what might have been - as again a competitive performance. Next up - a key match at home to fellow strugglers Galleywood.
