Eastwood CC, Essex 1st XI v Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club FIRST XI on Sat 28 May 2022 at 13:00
Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Won by 4 wkts

Match report The First Team set out on their second away adventure of the season to a cloudy Eastwood hoping for a jazzy welcoming.

Biffta won the toss and duly elected to field to make the most of the under/overhead conditions.

Kev and Sam Norman started well, both creating plenty of movement. The Eastwood opener Abu found his own sort of swing and started heaving the ball to all corners of Belfairs park. A couple of sharp chances came and went before the breakthrough came with Kev removing Abu's off stump out of the ground before he could do anymore damage.

By this point the skipper had brought himself into the attack to take pace off the ball. He picked up a couple of early wickets, including the dangerous looking Firoz.

In his last over Biff deservedly collected his 5th wicket, and his first for the first team!

Pateman picked up a couple, as did Alex Franklin. His first for the team, many more runs and wickets to come when the time is right I am sure.

Eastwood posted 167 with 110 coming from boundaries, surprising with the outfield long enough to hide Craig at mid wicket.

With the Champions League final looming an earlier finish was on the minds of a couple of Liverpool fans...

Craigo and Franko set out again knowing the ball would again be moving. Unfortunately for Franko another early dismissal being bowled off the pad for only a couple.

Craigo was more fortunate early on as he was bowled off a no ball, some controversy however over front foot crossing the side line not the crease meant it was an incorrect call but as the shout came so early and effected the batsman, Eastwood sportingly agreed to let Craig continue and he made them pay.

The Skipper and Craig put on a solid century plus stand with only one or two half chances being created.

Both were dismissed eventually after reaching 50. Craig his first for the season, lovely to see after promising signs last year.

There was a slight Woodham wobble after this but thankfully with only 30 odd runs remaining they were chalked off with 12 overs to spare.

We all enjoyed a beer as always in the Eastwood bar even if it was 28 quid for a 6 pint jug, a point at which I regretted taking 3 catches.

Apologies for the late report!
