Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Lost by 14 runs

Match report WMCC 1st VI fell to a disappointing 14 run defeat at the hands of Witham Reserves.

In a game reduced to 11 overs per side, WMCC won the toss and elected to field. Usually the strong suit, a below par performance in the field and the unwelcome sight of that old foe Eddie Extra contrived to enable Witham to reach a rather large 136 for the loss of just wicket. Gavin Cook bowled G. Sambrook, the only batsmen to head for the exit door and not allowed to return.

The reply started in typically brisk fashion, with 20 scored from the first over. All batsmen got starts and made double figures, but with the regular loss of wickets and less generosity afforded by the fielding side, the knocks from Ian Ball (30) and Chris Collis (29*) took WMCC close, by not close enough to overhaul a challenging target.

There is a week to recover, with time off for firework celebrations et al. before a return to action at Braintree College against old friends Terling.
