Don’s Day 8 a Side Tournament
Saturday 13th September 2014
We would like to thank-you for accepting our invitation to participate in Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club’s 8-a-side Tournament this Saturday. It is being held at Pheasant Park from 12:30pm. There will be a cash bar available and a rolling tea and BBQ throughout the afternoon. Match fees of £5.00 per player please. The matches will start at 1pm so please be there by 12:30pm to allow time for the pre-match briefing at 12.45pm.
Structure of the Tournament
- There are four teams of ten (eight players, two reserves). A different team from the batting order can field if so desired by the captains.
- The games will last around 45 minutes – 1 hour each and be seven overs in length (6 balls per over).
- There will not be any extra ball bowled for wides and no balls (except in the last over) and each extra will count as 2 runs and be added to the batsman’s total. EACH INNINGS TO BE BOWLED FROM SAME END.
- Anything down leg side will be counted as a wide of 2 runs and added to the batsman’s score.
- In the last over the extra ball will be bowled, extras will still be 2 and count towards the batsman score.
- A 6 or a 4 on the last ball of the innings will count as double!
- There will be one wicket keeper and each player must bowl one over.
- Batsman must retire on 20 and all extras of 2 runs are included in that score. Batsman ‘retired not out’ can return to the crease.
- Last man stands.
- Bowlers can only bowl off a 5 step run up and the wicket keeper must wear full keeping kit and stand a ‘normal’ distance from the stumps.
- The non-striker can be run out if and when the striker is caught; hence a double wicket per ball, so beware of backing up to far! The non-striker can only be run out at the non-strikers end.
- Mulligans: The team will be entitled to have one ball retaken during the play of the tournament. The privilege of a ‘do-over’ can be used while fielding or batting and can only be used once throughout the tournament. The captain of a team wishing to use the ‘mulligan’ must clearly demonstrate his intentions to the umpire before the next ball is bowled.
- Points will be awarded on the following basis: 3 for a win, 1 for a tie and none for a loss.
- Bonus points are awarded as follows: minus half a point per wicket lost, plus half a point for each retired batsman, , and one point for a run rate above 1
- In the event of a tie net run rate will be used to decide the winner.

Game 1: Beames Bashers v Glassons Glamours 1pm
Game 2: Carols Canaries v Fawcetts Fluffers 2pm
Game 3: Beames Bashers v Fawcetts Fluffers 3pm

Game 5: Glassons Glamours v Fawcetts Fluffers 5pm

Umpires and scorers
The incoming batsman must stand as square leg umpire. This helps to speed up the transition when a wicket falls.
Karen Brady will be official scorer and manage the tournament table. However each team will need to provide 1 umpire and an assistant scorer in the following games:
Game 1: Fawcetts Fluffers 1pm
Game 2: Beames Bashers 2pm
Game 3: Glassons Glamours 3pm
Game 4: Beames Bashers 4pm
Game 5: Carols Canaries 5pm
Game 6: Glassons Glamours 6pm
The incoming batsman must stand as square leg umpire. This helps to speed up the transition when a wicket falls
All the above timings are estimates and it would be ideal to get through the games as fast as possible. So if we could ask for your cooperation by being ready to umpire, score, field or bat when it’s your turn we would be most appreciative. The captains need to take charge of this and make sure your team is organized! There will be plenty of time to eat drink and chat!
Hopefully that’s not all too confusing………
See you all Saturday 12:30pm!
