High Roding (FINAL) v Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club INDOOR MIXED SIX on Fri 22 Feb 2019 at 7.00pm
Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Won by 6 runs

Match report MATCH REPORT MIXED SIX FINAL 2018/19 . WOODHAM MORTIMER 102 for 5 beat HIGH RODING CC 97 all out

I have no idea who won the toss as I arrived at ten past seven to find Talisman Dan Smith adjudged unjustly run out apparently for 13. 26/1. Gav Cook and Ollie Glasson kept the scoreboard ticking until Ollie attempted to nudge a wide one into the nets and chopped on. 51/2. Out came Kyrie Allen and whilst finding it hard to get the bowling away a lovely chip over the top for 4 and a few 3's coupled with regular wides got us to 90 before a mix up saw Kyrie back in the shed. Jack Preston failed to get the 5 iron out as we all expected; stumped for one and bringing an unbeaten Gav Cook back to the crease for the last 2 overs with Hannah. With Hannah pushing, another run out left Gav to finish up with a lovely six off the last ball to take us to 102 for 5 off 12 overs. Defendable but not really a competitive score. As we know 120 in over 40's off 10 at the county ground is a competitive score. Woodham will have to bowl and field well.

Bowl and field well we did!!

From the first over High Roding felt a touch off the pace and with a lovely direct hit from Dan the first wicket fell. Olerenshaw continued to push the run rate and easily looked the most dangerous bat. A simple catch to dan and another run out left High Roding 50 for 3 off 6 , still in it with the opener retired. Two more run outs followed and suddenly High Roding were 5 down needing 18 off 2, as we headed into the 11th over with the opener back in and looking untroubled. Really if they kept their heads the trophy would be theirs. Into the 12th with 9 to win. a three off the first ball, the Female Olerenshaw backing up and running well. Third ball into the last over the opener bunted the ball back to Ollie at Mid on; the non striker was half way down; a quick flick of the ball to Dan on the stumps and the game was over; all out 97 just 6 runs short!

A really great game of indoor cricket made all the more special as this competition has brought Hannah Verlander and Kyrie Allen a new found love of cricket! This has been the first season of the mixed league and I am sure there will be many more. Thank you to everyone who played and for your support in getting these teams out regularly

And Finally a big congratulations to Dan and his team for bringing it home in such style!
