Burnham-on-sea CC v Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club TOUR XI on Thu 04 Sep 2014 at 3:30pm 30/30
Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Lost by 44 runs
Match report
The opening tour match got underway on a beautiful warm September evening. Captain Andy Brown won the toss and put Burnham into bat.
Man of the Match Manoj Tripathi bowled a fantastic opeing 4 overs leaving the home side reeling on 44/4 off 9 overs. Good catches by Beames and Richardson added to two of his wickets.
Enter a Whiley old batsman for Burnham at number 6, a batsman who has a season average of over 300! He proceeded to bat sensibly and easily got Burnahm up to a credible total. He finally fell to a good catch behind the wicket to Ollie Glasson, this was Manoj 5th Wicket.
Manoj finished with 6 wickets for 32 runs and takes the man of the match award for the first game.
Burnahm finished on 204/8 off there 30 overs. A good chase was needed!
Craig and Connor got us off to a good start before Craig fell to a good catch on 4. Connor and Rod continued to bat well and scored at 6 an over and at one stage we were 82 for 1 off 90 balls and well in the game. Burnham then turned to a couple of pretty good spinners, the rate slowed but Rod and Connor kept us in the game , Rod finally fell for 31 bringing the Aussie to the crease. Beames Spent about 20 balls being bambozzled by the spin in amoungst 3 fours and a six before finally being given out LBW trying to sweep. Connor closely followed and a succession of wickets pushed us out of the game resulting in a 44 run loss.
Thanks to Burnham for hosting us and for the meal afterwards. We shall be back!
A Thouroughly enjoyable game and even though we lost we used 7 bowlers and got 10 batsman out in the middle. A proper tourists game, playing in excellent spirit and well captained by Andy Brown.
We roll on to Wellington CC tomorrow for a 1pm start. The forecast is excellent and we shall see the first glimpse of Neil Smith, Nigel Richardson George Verlander and Josh Brady.
Thanks also to our 4 reserves today. Neil George and Josh shared the umpiring duties and Nigel produced a beautiful scorecard!
