Match report Woodham Mortimer won the toss and put the visitors in, Eight Ash Green were soon reduced to 14 for 4 after seven overs by the accurate bowling of Ruth Smith (8 for Three). Debbie Aylward (26) and Nikki Brown (12) started the recovery before a heavy shower forced the players off the field. Aylward retired on 25 and the rate slowed as further wickets fell. A quickfire innings from Chris Jones (16) helped push the score along. Aylward returned in the final over and was the last person out going for a suicidal second run.
In reply, Woodham Mortimer started steadily but lost three early wickets, Victoria Brown (8) was run out by a direct hit by Aylward. Ruth Smith (25) accelerated the scoring aided by Claire Bulman (6). In the gathering gloom the home side needing 25 from the last six overs with five wickets in hand. Aylward (9 for two) returned to the attack with two quick wickets. Holly scrivener (7 not out) guided the tail with the home side needing three runs off the last over. Chris Jones (2 for two) took the ninth wicket with the first ball bringing Ruth Smith back to the crease. With lively support from the noisy home crowd played the next ball with care. With the fielders crowding around the bat, Smith hit the next high in the air back to the bowler who, in complete silence, accepted the catch. the home crowd looked on in disbelief as the visitors celebrated a very close victory with three balls to spare.
