Match report The 3rd place final was always going to be tight as the 2 teams had met twice before this season with Woodham winning but by very close margins on both occassions. The opening partnership for woodham saw them put on 34 in 6 overs when Woodham lost their 1st wkt. (S.Smith for 12) This brought Victoria Brown to the crease who had scored lots of runs in the previous games. However, Butcher (1-23) bowled her, 1st ball which with Laura Thorogood retiring slowed Woodhams run gathering. A very tight spell of bowling from Moore (1-6 off 4 overs) coupled with wickets falling just as some momentum was being regained meant that Kelvedon restricted Woodham to ONLY 103 when 130 looked more likely earlier on. Kelvedon's response was sound but not spectacular as the openers got to 31 off 8 overs. This was due to R. Smith(0-14) and Scrivener (0-16) bowling a very tight and economical opening spell. A change of bowling brought immidiate success as Grace Melvish got first Yates and then the d!
angerous Lees in her first over. 35 for 2 off 9 overs didn't look good for Kelvedon. Moore pushed a few around for 7 and the Johnson came in. She then set about the Woodham bowling. Getting 24 in 20 balls. Just as it seemed she would see Kelvedon home she went for one too many big hits and was bowled by Brown. Kelvedon required 4 off the last over with new bat Cowell facing. The first 4 balls went down as dots. 3 off 2. Cowell at last connected with a thick edge and a quick run was had. Last ball and Charlie Clark-Parkinson drove the ball hard towards cover a single, but with all the pressure a missfield occured and with Cowell and Clark-Parkinson always going for 2 scampered home with inches to spare. A fantastic end to a high quality game of cricket.
