Match report Day 2 of the tour saw the squad head to Ryde for their proposed 40 over match against Ryde Cavaliers. With one eye again on the heavens, a quick 10 minute burst after the toss was the only rain we saw all day and play was uninteruppted again.
Captain for the day, Kev Wright, won the toss and elected to bowl on what looked like a bowlers wicket against an unknown opposition. Wickets fell at regular intervals and it seemed we managed to unseat the more experienced batsmen early on. With this in mind a with a group of youngsters coming out to bat, Kev shared the bowling around to the more, lets say, less experienced bowling members of the squad!
Andy Brown, Mark Beames and Neil Smith all had a bowl with Beamer and Nelly both getting rare Woodham Wickets!Josh Brady had a good day behind the stumps with 3 catches a runout and a stumping. Ryde finished on 124 all out.
Kettley and Smith opened up the batting and put on 40 odd for the first wicket. Nelly played his normal riskless cricket to reach 41 not out at the end. Rod Brazier failed to get a standing ovation for his 50 as we thought he had hold out to deep mid-on for 49. However on a count back he had reached a well deserved 50. The only one of the Tour! Beames, itching to have a bat at 4 got one ball to dispatch to the boundary and the game was won.
A successful day 2 for the tourists. Thanks to Ryde Cavaliers for getting a team out to fulfil the fixture.
Saturday night was upon us and a number of the squad hit Ryde for a slap up meal, whilst others heading back to the hotel and the nightlife of Sandown. the Verlanders and the Bradys had joined us for the weekend to add to the party atmosphere. A good day all round.
