Match report The Isle of Wight Tour 2013 got under way at approx 3:30pm on Friday 6th September under a lovely suprising blue sky. After a successful journey from Essex to the hotel with our driver Glynn Smith, we made our way to Porchfield looking for revenge after our defeat in 2012.
Mark Beames won the toss and elected to field hoping to restrict Porchfield to a manageable score.
Hayman and Mitchell took the opening wickets with Porchfield on 58 by the 12th over, giving us a bit of hope we may restrict the home side. Unfortunately is was not to be as Hooper and Ball set about our bowling with both posting formidable scores of 76 and 93, with Hooper finally skying one to Stephen Richardson on the boundary. Porchfield finally finishing on 223 off their 30 overs.

Brazier and Beames opened the batting and Rod fell for nought to a lovely ball by our own George Verlander, who was making up the numbers for Porchfield. Beames, Tripathi, Hayman, Glasson, Kettley, Brady and Richardson all made bright starts but no one could go on the build a big enough innings to make the total likely and Woodham reached 177 in 30 overs, losing by 46 runs.

The result aside, it was again a pleasure to play Porchfield, who showed up with a competitive team on a Friday afternoon. The BBQ that followed was greatfully recieved and we made our way back to our hotel with our heads still held high. Porchfield have been a challenge for the last 2 years and although we probably wont be back for a few years we will all look forward to having another crack in the years to come.
