Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club FIRST XI v Broomfield 1st on Sat 06 Jul 2013 at 1.30pm
Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Lost by 3 wkts

Match report On easily the hottest cricketing day of the season so far, nearly 430 runs were shared at Pheasant Park, but unfortunately the 1's came up just slightly short against a youthful Broomfield side. Another excellent opening partnership from Goodlad & Brazier, who surpassed last weeks opening stand of 81, shared in a 1st wicket stand of 97. Matt again reached 50 but was unable to go on. Rod avoided jug honours for the third time, lbw to Fisher just three short of a well earnt half century. Many starts were made by the rest of the batting line up but other than Connor Hayman (24) no-one was able to push above 20 and beyond. With wickets steadily falling, last weeks final overs push that saw 38 smashed off the last 3 overs was unable to be replicated, in fact just 12 were amassed from the final 5 overs - leaving WMCC ultimately a few runs short of setting a winning total.

Broomfield also enjoyed an opening stand of 50 plus, until Cowell was removed by Wright. Wright also accounted for Baines as the game became more evenly poised. When 93-1 became 115-4, Farrow falling to a brilliant diving one handed catch from Beames, it was very much game on. Hayman took a caught & bowled to reduce the visitors to 152-5, but the key partnership between MacKintosh and Fisher took the score beyond the 200 mark. Fisher did enjoy a couple of lives before Beames took the catch to dismiss the Broomfield no 7, but at that point 13 were required. Nevertheless, Beames followed that catch with another brilliant piece of fielding, successfully throwing down the stumps to run out MacKintosh, exposing the tail. However, with just 9 required, the visitors held their nerve and reached the target with 3 wickets and 8 balls to spare.

Another decent performance, and with another 15 runs, or the holding on to the chances offered by Fisher could have just swung a tight game Woodies way. Nevertheless, with rival Galleywood picking up just 2 points in their defeat, WMCC are now just 2 points away from climbing out of the relegation zone.
