Match report The Tour is finally underway and we are met by glorious sunshine. After an expensive cab ride to Porchfield Cricket Club which seemed to annoy Browney more than anyone else we finally get to our first venue.

Reddin strolled out the middle to choose wrong but is asked to bat first in a 25 over game. Roger and Cookie opened the batting. Roger topped scored with a fifty including seven fours. No one else in the side pushed on to support Roger and the first innings of the tour included three ducks. Stuie Careless, Neil Collins and a golden duck for Manoj. His first ball was caught of a 12 year boy who was no taller than the stumps!

After a good start WMCC managed to get only 137 all out after a good start. We really should have got 180 but the middle order failed. Was this going to be enough?……………

…………. NO!

We never actually found out whether they were a batting team or not as number three was not required as we lost by ten wickets.

Not the best start to the tour. We certainly needed to improve in all three departments. Roger batted first and Reddin kept brilliantly with no byes to his name (according to Reddin that is). With the two Neil’s and Manoj lined up to mind the stumps in the next three games the challenge was on. Could they equal his brilliance with the gauntlets.

Man of the match for Woodham was Roger.

Notes: Reddin captained and kept wicket. Watts and Kettley played for Porchfield who were short.

I would like to send out thanks to Porchfield who proved to be great hosts on the pitch as well as in the bar. They laid on a great barbeque and we typically helped their funds across the bar.

Spirits not dampened we headed back in the minibus to Ryde to the tones of “We’ve got a ticket to Ryde” and “The wheels on the bus”. Then to the bar….. (where this report ends)
