Match report
A return fixture against Taunton Dean after the exciting draw last year. The sun was out again and the cobwebs from another late night were quickly shaken away.
We again agreed to allow the opposition to bat and they opened with the 15 year old who scored 100 against us last year.No such luck this year as Ollie bowled him for 26. With the other opener out to a Hayman yorker the number 3 and 4 set about building a partnership. Toby and Josh bowled good spells without wickets. and Beames was also tight, although 'buying' a wicket with a leg stump full toss well held by Roger on the boundary. But the star of the show today was David Glasson. With thoughts of retirement fresh in his mind he came on to bowl his unique style of lofted deliveries.
He looped and lofted and every so often shot the faster one in. Each time the batsman eyes would light up and smack a catch down a fielders throat.
First, Beames held on to one at last, then Brady held a sharp chance at the second attempt. Then a caught and bowled by Dave to make it 3. The crowd knew they were witnessing something special. When Roger Marshall held a catch to make it 4 the excitement was immense. Captain Brazier invited Dave back to bowl his 7th and final over and he did not dissapoint, another good catch on the boundary by Toby Patemen to give Dave a five for! It's was touring cricket is all about! Dave finished with 5 for 38 off 7 and takes the man of the match award.
Woodhams innings started like a rocket with Brazier and Brady back together for a special one of performance. Josh hit 8 fours in his 41 and Rod held up his end with a solid 29.
Josh fell to a good catch trying to continue to accelerate... and that was about it really... from 1 for 73 to all out for 122. Only Beames and Tripathi managed to get to double figures. A proper collapse!
Batting asside the day will be remembered for Dave's five wickets. Thanks again to Taunton Dean for a good game played in the right spirit
