Match report A visit to the league leaders presented the biggest challenge of the season, and after being asked to bat upon losing the toss, it soon became apparent as to why Hornchurch had played 7 and won 7. A quick, accurate opening attack put paid to much of the top order, who, with the exception of Matt Goodlad (30) the only player to make double figures, struggled to cope with the pace and bounce of Coote & Sammons. WMCC eventually succumbed for 76, but ultimately that was never going to be enough to challenge. Connor Hayman bowled an excellent 7 over spell and picked up two wickets to earn the first and only point of the match. George Verlander bowled well and earnt a wicket of his own, and if chances had been taken, an additional point or two may have been yielded from the trip down the A12.

But it is the crucial game against Southend next week, and over the next few fixtures that will shape the season - as opposed to a defeat against good opponents surely destined for promotion and quick elevations to higher leagues within the structure.
