Match report An exciting climax to the end of the match, as WMCC almost snatched victory from the clutches of hosts Southend & EMT, but the home side got home with one ball to spare.

Put into bat, the top three of Hirst (42), Richardson S (69) & Smith (29) provided two solid partnerships for the opening two wickets, an opening stand of 89, followed by 56, as WMCC looked to post their highest score of the season to date. A late flurry of wickets helped to stem the flow of runs, with only Martin Coulson (16*) the other batsman to pass double figures, as WMCC posted 180-6.

An early wicket and tight early bowling from Wright & Payne kept the visitors run chase in check, but the second wicket would not come. Peggy finally made a breakthrough, Silver dismissed for 44, and Johnson soon followed for 11, but Southend looked on course to gain victory. However, with the fall of the wickets, runs started to slow and the run rate increased, and the outcome of the game would be decided in the final over - where the hosts squeezed out the 5 runs they needed for victory with one ball to spare.
