Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Lost by 24 runs

Match report The second Friday fixture saw Woodies win the toss, electing to field with Damo keeping stumps. For a moment there was a hilarious situation where both the captains believed they had won the toss, finally we agreed WMCC won the toss.

Peggy was given the shinning new white ball with Nathan from other end. There was clever batting from # 2,3 and 4 who all got to 25. All the 4 wickets were run outs from Manoj, Mark, and Damo. Perhaps a stumping, catch and run out chance could have changed the course of the game to reduce the chase by another 15-20 runs. Need to revisit the bowling options next week with Mark being requested to take on the gloves and Damo to take on bowling responsibilities.

A steady start from the two openers maintained a good run rate. Damo looked great until he was beaten by pace and got bowled by Joyce. Joyce kept very tight in his first 2 overs to put pressure on WMCC batting. Manoj and Keith got starts but could not build to get to 25 and were dismissed for 12 each. John strange joined Mark Beames and the pressure mounted due to dot balls. In the last over Beames retired for 27 with Nathan and John remaining not out till the end. WMCC finished with 99 for 3 wickets falling short by 24 runs.

The difference between 2 teams was the 3 over spell of Joyce that conceded only 19 runs.

It was satisfying to see contributions from every one with bat, ball & fielding, more importantly working as a unit. Well done guys and especially Beames who excelled with bat and fielding. Thanks to Peggy to keep the scorebook in order, team sharing the umps duties & managing the scoreboard. Peggy and John not available next week, so welcome to Gary Verlander & Nigel to replace them for the next game. Thanks to Ollie and Dave Gains for supporting us.
