Brentwood CC v Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club INDOOR OVER FORTY SIX on Fri 25 Sep 2015 at 9:00pm
Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Won by 2 wkts
Match report
The first Friday fixture saw Woodies win the toss, electing to field with Damo keeping stumps. Peggy was given the shinning new white ball and he did not disappoint the team. Peggy claimed the first wicket knocking the top of off stump of A Johnson. Numerous edges were found flying in the slips throughout the Brentwood innings to the frustration of Woodies. Captain N Wood looked strong with bat but was thankfully dismissed caught and bowled by Nathan for 15. A Buttleman who scored 58 not out last season was restricted to 39 this time by having more straight fields to stop the boundaries. Manoj and Beames claimed the middle order wickets a piece each. Peggy dismissed A Wasley by an excellent direct throw from the bowling end to wrap up Brentwood innings at 87, well short of last years 115. Keith was pick of the bowlers with 3 overs 1 for 18.
A steady start from the two openers maintained a good run rate; Damo looked great until he missed a well flighted delivery to get stumped at 10. Manoj joined Beames and kept the required run rate until he was dismissed caught by the Brentwood skipper off the roof underneath the back wall at 8. Nigel Richarson joined Beames and looked good with straight shots and getting used to a pair of new specs. Nigel departed run out by Brentwood skipper who ran alongside Nigel to the non-strikers to take the stumps off. With soft dismissals in progress, Beames had to retire at his well-earned patient 25. Nathan joined under a lot of pressure with the intention to hit or get out, a right call. Beames joined Peggy after Nathan was bowled out to continue his match winning innings of 35. Peggy and Beames took woodies home with Peggy not out on 17 (all set for good average this season too) with one ball to spare.
It was satisfying to see contributions from every one with bat, ball & fielding, more importantly working as a unit. Well done guys and especially Beames and Peggy who excelled in all areas of the game. Thanks to Peggy to keep the scorebook in order, team sharing the umps duties & managing the scoreboard. Peggy not available next week, so welcome to John Strange to replace him for the next game. Thanks to Kev, Louise and Dave Gains for supporting us.
Let’s keep the momentum going and more importantly keep enjoy the games.
