Match report The last fixture and finally we won the toss, skipper Ebenezer electing to bat first with only five of the opposition present. A solid start from Damo getting to retire with early boundaries, followed by DG then Beamsy. Three in the hutch and a good run rate, but we didn't accelerate and finished a little short of what we could have reached - especially with one fielder missing. Good batting nevertheless against very tidy bowling, with the only wicket falling on the very last ball.

Halfway there but our bowling wasn't as tight and we were leaking a few wides. Ardleigh batted sensibly taking many threes, and despite Woodies attacking fielding they kept up with the run rate. We thought we'd tied when Ardleigh reached 109 at the end of the last over, but the umpire had miscounted, one ball to go. Down it went, the batsman played and missed and was stumped - tied ! .... No - the ball was called wide and we'd missed out. An exciting game and it showed just how much those few runs or extras can make the difference.

With three wins from six, it is a fair reflection of our performance. We've clawed wins from the jaws of defeat, and lost games we probably should have won. Some heroic batting, star fielding and tidy bowling have showed we can compete in all departments. The games have all been played in a great spirit and enjoyed by all. Well done all the team and thanks from Nick for all your fine efforts in support this season.
Final standings, we finished 6 out of 7 - but with only six points covering the middle five teams, and only 12 short of the leaders, it showed what a close contest this league has been. Bonus points were the key to the final positions - better batting and tidier bowling will give us a really strong chance next season.
