Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Lost by 70 runs

Match report On a rain affected day, Woodham won the toss and fielded, only due to the inclement weather and the potential for a shortened game, and began strongly. All of the bowlers ripped into the Boreham top order, reducing the home side to 60 - 6 in the first half of the innings. The Boreham skipper Hepworth, ably assisted by keeper Bryant propelled the score towards respectability and, by the time the rain had curtailed the innings, the score was a healthy 180-8. The Woodham bowlers, on the whole, bowled well, sharing the wickets between them. Russell Barnard bowled particularly well on his return to league cricket picking up a couple of wickets.

In response, the skipper nicked off for 7, Spudley followed, done by a grubber, and with Nick 'Ebenezer' Goode also falling cheaply the Woodham heroes were in a spot of trouble. It got worse. Puss bowled off his toe for a dozen, Chris Colossus bowled for 3 and Connor Hayman caught in the deep for a brace - 45-6. Although Friend (34) and Cook (21) gave the away side a slight glimpse of hope, the end was nigh as both fell in the run chase. Flash fell for 8 having a go at the spinner and Hayman junior was last to go, bowled by Bruder who returned figures of 4-13!

A disappointing result in the gloom at Boreham Rec, albeit in tough conditions. We had our chances but failed to seize the day and thus came out suitably wet and with only a few meagre points to show for the day.
