Match report WMCC Indoor 1's are rather enjoying life in the top division, as they took last years champions Coggeshall all the way in an exciting match that ultimately ended in disappointment, as they narrowly went down by 8 runs. In truth, it was a game that should have been won, but served as further evidence that we are not just in the league to make up the numbers.

The mix of seam and spin attack ensured that Coggeshall didn't get away too far, with wickets taken at regular intervals, a first at this level for James Dallinger, and a mixture of dismissals for Ian Ball behind the stumps, involved in four of the six wickets to fall.

Ball continued his evenings work by achieving another 25 run retirement, and despite the early loss of Mark Beames, Rod Brazier & Kev Wright continued to take the challenge to Coggeshall. Rod also retired, and when Wright was caught off the wall for 22, 32 were needed from the final five. Crucially, the 10th over produced the only maiden of the match, and ultimately tipped the balance back in the favour of the champions. A six in the final over from Brazier teased the gathering hoards in the 'Mr & Mrs soundproof gallery' leaving 9 required from 2 balls. Unfortunately, that is where the run chase ended, tantalisingly 8 runs short of what would have been an excellent and well fought victory.

The performance again showed what the team is capable of, and despite defeat have moved out of the bottom two. If the team can replicate this performance next week, the opponents, bottom placed Coggeshall Hamlet, will have a big challenge to meet.
