New centre is a non-starter
It is with regret that I must announce that, for this season, we shall only be able to play matches at the Braintree Leisure Centre, as the other centres in Witham cannot find staff willing to act as caretakers on a Sunday afternoon and evening.
The Reserve League Cup matches will now be absorbed into the fixtures at the Leisure Centre, and changes to the fixture lists, if needed will be posted as soon as possible. Also it is very probable that further changes will be made to the fixture lists and Umpiring Rota for all divisions, as it is possible that some teams were listed to do all their officiating at the other centre, and have now been left without any to do. This will be recitified to retain a balance.
Looking forward, I shall continue to see if the Academy can find staff for next season, and they have promised to keep in contact with me should there be a change in circumstances. However, we have to face up to the fact that this situation may continue into ensuing seasons. Therefore I would like to see each team playing more fixtures than each will now have this season.
This can be achieved by reducing the number of divisions down to three, but this could issues with Reserve teams not being able to gain promotion. Another step forward, though in reality it would be a giant step backwards, is to revert to having two divisions of just clubs' first teams and restoring the Reserve Championship, and not having third teams anymore.
Whatever decision we finally agree upon has to be carefully considered by all participating teams, and I am very open to alternative suggestions. So please feel free to let me know your thoughts.
I am just so disappointed that this season each team will play so few fixtures.
