Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Lost by 17 runs

Match report WMCC Ladies team 86 all out lost to Rayleigh 103/5. Rayleigh were a different team this week hitting boundaries off the Woodham bowlers Verlander 4overs 3 maidens 1 for 5 and Smith 2 overs 1 for 6 were in good form. Wicket keeper Neill was very impressive on her debut (also scoring a useful 5 off 5balls in the middle order.) Woodham lost opener, Brown first ball followed by Southgate in the 2nd over for 2 runs. Melhuish retired (27) and the young middle order made some good running, Sleep run out on 19 was the next best bat. A hatrick of wickets for Rayleigh bowler Lennox removed 2 of the wickets for 0 runs. Melhuish returned to the crease with no.9 Thorogood needing 21 off 4 overs, it made for a great game of cricket. However, an LBW decision by the Rayleigh umpire saw Thorogood dismissed on 6 and Woodham 17 runs short. It was the most frustrating game of cricket that the team have ever played and one in which many lessons were learnt.
