Alternative venue and this Sunday's fixtures
After two seasons it is with some regret that I have to announce that we shall no longer have use of The College at Braintree. They have spent a lot of money on some acoustic wall fittings, and I assume that this has rendered the Hall as unsuitable for cricket.
However, we have not been idle in seeking an alternative venue, and after preliminary enquiries and talks, there is a strong possibilty that, for the first time, we shall be playing matches outside of Braintree. I hope to be able to confirm in the next day or two we could be playing at the new Maltings Academy in Spinks Lane, Witham. We do have a man, on the inside there to help plead our case, as Terling's Peter Tomkins works there, and the lady I have been in discussions with is a former neighbour of mine and also one of my customers.
If we do get the go-ahead to use the facility it remains, at this time, uncertain as to whether we can start this Sunday. If we cannot start this Sunday then the matches that were scheduled will be fitted into the fixture list on those Sundays which we were unable to have used the College anyway because of basketball. So not starting this Sunday is no great disaster.
So everyone should keep checking back here for further news.
Play will start as planned at the Braintree Leisure Centre though. Can I also remind everyone of the changes made to our Rules and Playing Conditions mentioned further down this column under the AGM heading.
