Woodham to play historic 6 games in 5 days!
Over the next five days Woodham Mortimer Cricket club will play 6 games. A historic first for the club.
Tonight the undefeated ladies will be playing at home v Rayleigh. Rayleigh were runners up to Woodham in the South Division last season so this promises to be a hard fought game.
The Ladies are also holding a "MacMillan fundraising evening" at WMCC to run alongside their cricket match tonight starting 6pm. There will be a raffle, book stall, guess the number of sweets in a jar and more. Please come along to cheer on the Ladies team and support a very worthy cause.
After a challenging selection process the League captains have selected 2 solid teams for the league matches this Saturday:
The first Eleven plays Willow Herbs away. Willow have already notched up their first win of the season with Woodham unlucky not to post a win last week due to the rain. Congratulations to a number of members promoted to the firsts for this weekend. We wish them luck!
The Second Eleven will play at home v Bentley Thirds. Bentley beat Roxwell Blues last week to post their first win of the season. Woodham still looking for their first win this season and confidence is high!
On Sunday Woodham travel to Navestock, the scene of Manoj’s century last year. A few batsman are getting a bit over excited about the prospect and with a good mix of young players and experience we look forward to a positive result.
Monday night see the first of 4 Warsop league 20/20 game v Maldon. This is the first time Woodham have participated in a 20/20 league. The game will start at 6pm at Drapesr Farm, Maldon’s home ground. Out of a possible 16 players available, the captain has hopefully picked a good mix of batting and bowling. We have no idea what to expect (will their overseas professional play?) but rest assured we will be going all out to try and win this one! Thanks to everyone for making themselves available for both 20/20 games this week.
And finally on Tuesday night the 20/20 friendly side take on Marconi at home. We are still waiting for our first win v Marconi. They are a good side, however we have got close in the past and I believe we will again have a chance to take them this week!
Thank you to Don and Nathan for preparing 3 wickets over the next five days, and a particular thank you to all the captains for working so hard for the club to get 5 teams out. It is sometimes a thankless task with lots of organising behind the scenes, and a real test to try to make everybody happy whilst ensuring competitive teams.
I for one am looking forward to a festival of cricket at Woodham over the next five days and I am looking for odds on five straight wins!!
