President's Men Victorious in Close Encounter

03 Sep 2012

President, Francis Wolton, led his team to victory in the annual President's Day game by a margin of just 9 runs.  The President won the toss and batted first and, after 40 overs, his team had amassed 225 thanks to half centuries from the Druid, Guest Cuthbert and Connor Hayman. The President himself contributed a useful unbeaten 23. The Club XI produced a sound performance in the field with Chris Collis, Kev Wright and Geoff Reddin amongst the wickets.  The reply saw contrasting half centuries from Andy Brown and Manoj Tripathi helping the Chairman's XI get close, but not close enough. Tripathi's 50 came off only 39 balls, whilst Brown's effort included a mesmerising 56 dot balls, much to the joy of the crowd.  The final total of 216 was not quite enough to secure victory.  Thank you to all who supported this game, both players and spectators alike.
