Good Morning all,
Just a quick note to thank everyone for really making this season a success. With all the uncertainty earlier in the year it has really been down to the club’s members paying up and showing up! We had 42 players play for the club across 26 fixtures. We managed to win 24 of those games with only 2 loses.
The weather only intervened twice, and we managed to play 2 very enjoyable games last weekend in 12 degrees!
Cricket is alive and kicking at Woodham Mortimer!
A few thank you’ s from me:
Firstly, to Nathan, who, as always maintains our square and our grounds. He works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure we have a wicket prepared and the grounds ready to play. We will get you a new square next year Nathan!
To Nick for everything he does with the club house and bar. We all showed up in July to a clean and tidy club house with the bar stocked and COVID security in place! This is all down to Nick. The bar has been very successful this year and Nick has made sure we have remained within the rules and ensured the money kept rolling in! He is always the first to arrive and the last to leave even if he is not playing.
Thank to our esteemed Chairman for being the leader at the top of the pyramid. We have attracted a number of new members this year and Ian has always been there to offer a warm welcome to the youngsters and their parents. The future always rest with the kids and Ian has done a great job of building those relationships that hopefully last a lifetime.
As always, we thank our President Francis Wolton for our lovely ground and his continuing support of the club. We are very lucky to have such fantastic facilities and Francis’ continuing support enables cricket to thrive at Woodham.
To all those that captained this year, Toby Pateman, George Verlander, Manoj Tripathi, Gav Cook and Sam Older. Thank you for your support and assistance in getting teams out and ensuring everyone had the best cricket experience they could have.
Thank you to our youngsters; Angus, Fin, Josh and Sophia. I am sure everyone will agree we have attracted a fantastic pool of talent in 4 so young. Whether they play league or Sundays or just mid-week 20/20 in the years to come you are always welcome at Woodham.
Finally, thank you to everyone that turned out this season. Without the club members showing up to play there would be no Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club, and without any meaningful competition this year I think we all made the best of a bad situation and we can call this year a success.
So that’s it from me for a while. With no indoor on the horizon it maybe a while before we don the whites again. Saturday the 17th April 2021 for our first friendly. please update your availability!!!
This weekend we plan to put the square to bed and complete various other jobs. I will email separately in regard to that. We will require a good turn out to get all the jobs done so please make the effort to get down if you can.
Signing off for 2020.
Regards
Mark
