Match report The battle for survival in the top flight came with mixed blessings this evening. With the skipper in Scotland following on cricinfo with one too many wee drams in him, it was left to the Aussie to try and conjure up a win and ensure our presence in the top flight next season. We fell short by 2 runs however we took 5 points off Coggeshall leaving us 16 in front of them with one to play making sure we will qualify for div 1 next season. A bitter sweet result really. The plan this season was to survive and gain a little respect from our opponents, and that we did and in fact we have had 3 close results already and with one more game against the bottom of the table, we can safely say we have held our own.
Tonight we bowled an fielded OK to restrict Coggeshall to 106 off 10 although the captain fell victim to the 26 min rule which meant that Peggy and Andy smith did not bowl their 3rd overs so restricting the game to a 10 over affair.
Ball and Beames struggled to score at 10 an over early on and had only managed 43 off 6 overs before ball was bowled. Ian Ball is on top of the run scorers in the first division. He holds and 11 run lead after today with one game to play.
With Beames retiring on 26 (off about 50 it felt like;sorry chaps!) Andy Smith and Rod Brazier proceeded to get us right back in the game by smashing 50 off 3 overs (including 2 fives) leaving us a challenging 14 off the last over. With Rods stumping it was left to Andy Smith and Craig Marshall to try to get us over the line. A quick three off the last ball and returning for the second run for victory Craig was run out just short leaving us 2 runs from victory. 5 points taken but a disappointing result.

Congratulations to the Seconds for making the semi final of the cup and hopefully the firsts can join them when we take on Rayne next Sunday.
