Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club TWENTY20 XI v Boreham on Tue 02 Jul 2013 at 6.00pm
Match was Tied

Match report The last of the 5 Boreham matches for 2013; and what a match it was.
By mutual consent Boreham batted first and while we only took 2 wickets we bowled and fielded with vigour and restricted them to 108.
New boy Chris Roper failed to follow up Saturdays match winning innings with a first ball duck. (I know how that feels!) George 25 and kev retiring on 30 left us in a great position with loads of batting to come.
Unfortunately, bat, we did not! After Beames fell for a miserable 5, a succession of wickets brought the retired Kev Wright back to the crease. With 9 wickets down and needing 19 off 12 balls, Kev and Ollie attempted to get us over the line. A flurry of boundaries left us needing 8 off 7 balls, when Kev came dancing down the wicket and missed the ball entirely. Luckily for Woodham Mortimer, life member Richard Kneller was behind the stumps for Boreham and after an athletic dive to his left and a pick up and throw, he missed the stumps by inches! A bye was run leaving ollie on strike and 7 needed to win. The missed stumping was to cost Richard Kneller dear in the bar afterwards. His tab awaits him this weekend!!

A missfield in the deep gave Ollie a much needed boundary off the penultimate ball, leaving us needing 3 off the last. On the last ball Ollie middled a lovely straight drive that was beautifully fielded in the deep with a great return throw and the batsman could only manage to run 2. A tie was the fitting result.

I think I speak for the whole squad when I say these five games have been played in great spirit with a great sense of competition. The exact reason we all play villiage cricket I believe. No anger, no injustice no sense of foul play and that is a credit to all players concerned.

I particularly want to thank Richard Kneller (A Woodham Mortimer life member) for keeping for Boreham on 3 occasions. A man who loves his cricket and no dodgy knee is going to stop him!

We now have a run of 6 games against extremely able opposition and I imagine the humour we have had in these Boreham games may dissapate slightly.

See you for the first of these games on Friday versus Tillingham. Also a reminder its the ladies last home game on friday so please drop in for a drink on your way home after our 20/20 game.
